Comfy, Contemporary Townhouse in Austin

Five years ago, Richard and Rachel Funk drove around the Tarrytown neighborhood of West Austin and fell in love with a townhouse still under construction. Richard believes himself a true Austinite and understood right away they’d call this place home. Ever since that time, the couple designed their townhouse after a simple, elegant and modern aesthetic.

Six months ago, the couple included a major addition to their home: girl Reese. They spent the most time designing her nursery employing a graphic pink, yellow and green wallpaper as their main inspiration. See how the two have turned into this new construction to a comfortable and stylish location to call home.

The most striking piece from the living room is a bright orange hand-blown bowl that was a wedding present. A Crate and Barrel couch serves as a room divider with this open space. Rachel says”We love our living room because that’s where we spend the most time.”

Richard and Rachel discovered this painting in Lana’i, Hawaii on their honeymoon. “We met the artist, Jordanne, who was only amazing, and Richard bought the piece for our one time anniversary,” says Rachel.

This white seashell-shape armchair, one of two, initially belonged to Richard’s parents. They used to be upholstered in a blue seashell cloth; the Funks redid them with white linen and added a dark stain to the wood.

The Austin couple made the most of an upstairs opening, making an inviting and practical office space. The orange wall color, white desk and white seat from Pier 1 Imports maintain the workspace bright and organized.

A nursery isn’t complete without a comfortable glider seat. The Funks chose this white glider with pink piping from Baby Coco. The crib can also be from Baby Coco.
