Houzz Tour: Country Glamour in Woodstock, New York

Although Woodstock, N.Y. is better known for its 1969 concert, this rustic town is also a free-spirited getaway spot for New Yorkers. Interior designer Suysel dePedro Cunningham bought an 1890s farmhouse nearby as a weekend country house for her and her loved ones. 1 half of the design team Tilton Fenwick, Cunningham recruited the assistance of her design partner Anne Maxwell Foster to completely redo the home.

The pair gutted the home and took down every wall into the studs. “It was a homeowner’s potential nightmare, but a legitimate decorator’s dream,” says Foster. To get a special look that emphasized the background of the town and the house, they stuck into a rich and nature-inspired colour palette and traditional furniture accented with design accessories.

“There is a part of escapism involved with a country home,” says Cunningham. “This allows for more pleasure!” The team stuck together with the idea of a upscale country house with a twist — a look that’s epitomized in the living room’s rich colours and use of organic materials.

Another sitting area adjacent to the fireplace echoes exactly the very same colours of the prior photo. Cunningham and Foster stuck using a earthy palette of browns, turquoises, and reds throughout the home. By using exactly the very same tones in each space, they could tie the whole house together.

Creating a house that was suitable for the nation was important, but Cunningham and Foster also wanted to avoid cliché. By incorporating artistic elements throughout the home (including the tasteful additions to the bar above), and constructing a house that could be the ideal weekend escape for a young family, they made a unique and fresh aesthetic.

A dark turquoise couch is accented with cushions in cloth used everywhere in the living area. Custom artwork made out of paint chips generates as a focus over. The designers chose to use yet another earthy tone inside this area and accessorized using an eggplant-colored crocodile leather on the ottoman.

Cunningham and Foster fell in love with all the large-scale nine-piece photo of a Queen Anne Lace bloom. They purchased it immediately and was dying to use it in the ideal setting. The turquoise lacquered walls in the dining area made the perfect backdrop for this particular piece.

The linen-lacquered table is set with organic-inspired tableware. From the faux bois dishes into the woven table runners, this setting is reminiscent of their house’s naturally luxe style.

Bold, statement-making wallpapers are a part of Tilton Fenwick’s signature fashion. The blue of the Farrow & Ball wallpaper is both playful and soothing, and contrasts beautifully with the red-orange of this bedding and custom headboard.

A custom upholstered headboard in a subtle coral layout adds silent elegance into the room. The coral layout is just visible enough to supply a lively clash of layout and colour with the wallpaper and cushions.

Although they essentially had to do a full renovation, Cunningham and Foster nonetheless wanted to maintain and emphasize the parts of the home that added to its charm. One of the original fireplaces, painted a simple white, was kept in the master bedroom to get chilly winter nights.

Cunningham and Foster worked with artist Victoria Molinelli to style a wallpaper which employs the Tilton Fenwick logo for your guest bedroom. The peacock printing is echoed with a bold metal peacock over the bed — a lucky find at the flea market. “We are biased,” says Foster,”but we think it turned out beautifully!”

“We embraced the culture unique to Woodstock, where self-expression is in the air,” says Cunningham. “We took that soul and ran with it, actually creating a house that’s full of fun rolls” Across from the bed in the master bedroom, Cunningham and Foster played with the contemporary design of Cunningham’s family by mixing a classic couch with a lucite coffee table.

In a woman’s room, Cunningham and Foster upholstered the walls using a traditional blue and brown floral pattern in Cowtan & Tout. Straightforward brown-and-white bedding echoes the graphic”C” over the cushioned headboard. “The aim was to emphasize the charm and emphasize comfort,” says Foster. “I certainly think we succeeded.”

The main bathroom focuses on the earthy brown in the home’s color palette, highlighted with a soft spring green. Instead of a medicine cabinet or shelving, a massive antique Chinese armoire stores fluffy towels and other bathroom must-haves.
