How to Change an Ignitor on a Thermador Professional Oven

Thermador Professional ovens don’t use a pilot light to ignite the gasoline. Instead, the ovens utilize an ignitor, which is a small plate which heats fast. If it reaches the correct temperature, then the gas line automatically opens along with the gas ignites. Over the years, the plate does not heat up enough to ignite the gasoline; it requires replacement.

Before You Start

Unplug the stove in the wall. Alternately, turn off the circuit breaker at the box, and utilize a noncontact circuit tester to ensure no power is reaching the oven.

Turn the gas off by turning the lever to the gasoline amount clockwise by one-quarter flip, or until it stops spinning.

Wear work gloves. Stoves tend to have sharp edges where you least expect them.

Remove and Replace the Ignitor

Open the oven door. Look on the sides of the hinges, and also find the hinge latches. Lift each latch above the hook. Lift the door partway, and slide it off the slots around the door frame.

Remove the cooking racks in the oven. You may need to lift them at an angle when they are approximately two-thirds out to detach them from the sides of the oven. Also get rid of any extra drip pans or aluminum foil in the bottom of the oven.

Loosen both screws on the metal tabs that hold the bottom oven tray set up. Don’t remove the screws, the poles slide out. Then look on the sides of the tray and remove both front bottom clips. Slide the bottom tray from the oven.

Remove the two screws holding the ignitor set up. Before removing the wires, then note the places or colors of the wires inside the oven. Lift the ignitor from the oven.

Insert the new ignitor in precisely the same place as the original, screw it in place and reattach the wires into the oven.

Reinstall the base tray as well as the oven door. Slide the oven in and turn the gas on.
