Cobalt Gets the Red Carpet Treatment

The most surprising and attractive fashion on the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet for me was dazzling cobalt. Allison Williams and TIna Fey rocked the colour. (Full disclosure: I tend to prefer what my fellow brunettes are looking great in.) This is a fad that homes have already been enjoying, and I wonder if the fashion designers and stylists had recently strolled through Majorelle Garden or noticed the manner cobalt tile was flying off the shelves. Listed below are 11 ways this daring shade of blue is strutting its stuff around your home.

Laura U, Inc..

Cobalt makes it Moroccan. Inspired by the famous Majorelle Garden in Marrakech (you know the one you see in all those wonderful classic photos of Yves St. Laurent, lounging in a white caftan on exotic fabrics softly laid in heaps on the floor), the designers at Laura U. punctuated this Moroccan-inspired house with dollops of cobalt.

Tweak Your Space

Cobalt goes casual. In spite of its high-fashion success, cobalt can be relaxing as well.A traditional picnic table glossed up in the color takes on a whole new personality.

Michael McKinley and Associates, LLC

Cobalt goes nautical. Paired with a yacht-like wood floor, white Shaker cabinets and steel and wood hardware, this kitchen is in ship shape.

Howells Architecture + Design, LLC

Cobalt as a notch up from navy. If you like the crisp, nautical and traditional pairing of navy and white but want to amp it up, think about cobalt.

Siemasko + Verbridge

If you would rather keep your tiles white but still crave a few cobalt in the kitchen, have a look at cobalt appliances. This is the BlueStar RNB Gas Range.

Cobalt goes industrial. Mixed with steel and white, eye-catching variegated glossy tile jazzes up this contemporary bathroom. It throws a few Ella Fitzgerald, scat-singing sort of jazz, you know, except with tile. Does analogy make sense to anyone besides me? Just wondering!

Cobalt art steals the scene. All of the furnishings within this chic Miami house are calm and impartial, which draws the attention up to this lively cobalt triptych.

Cobalt enlivens a transitional dining room. This dining room was inspired by another Yves, Yves Klein, for whom the paint color Klein Blue is named. In reality, the paint here was specially combined to match two of the sculptures used inside the room.

What do you consider the cobalt fad? Are you ready to dip in, or are you into navy, turquoise or teal? Are you going to examine it out with a few tiny accessories initially, or are you ready to dip in with a gallon of paint?
