Cleaning Your Windows Like A Pro In 7 Steps

Whether you love the process or not, clean windows are a sight to behold. Cleaning the windows is not one of the easiest tasks but it’s worth the time that you will spend in the process. Depending on the type of windows that you have, you should clean them at least 2 times a year. Here’s where you can learn about window cleaning.

Most people simply use grease, spray cleaners, newspaper or wadded up paper towels and consider their work done. This is not the best way to clean the window installation. In fact, you might end up transferring the dirt from one place to the other.

The following are some simple steps that will help you clean your windows properly like a professional:

Wash With A Strip Applicator

A strip applicator is particularly good for picture windows. The applicator has a long cloth head, and with enough water, you will be able to easily remove dirt from the window without leaving any scratches behind. This process takes around 10 minutes a window, and you only need warm water and dishwashing liquid.

Use A Squeegee

This is another easy method. Use the squeegee over a soapy window pane. For the best results, do this in a reverse S pattern. Use a lint free cloth to wipe the squeegee clean after every stroke. You might also use old linen or cloth diapers.

Dry Off The Drips

Use a properly wrung-dry chamois to soak up the water from the corners of the glass. The chamois effectively leaves your window dry without any streaks. For the windowsill, a dry rag will come in handy.

Customize The Squeegee

In case you are unable to get the squeegee in the size you want, you can customize it. Getting the right size is perfect for light windows that are divided. You can even use a hacksaw and a utility knife to trim the squeegee down to the right size.

Scrub The Panes

You must scrub the window panes properly. A bristle brush or natural handheld sponge will be good in case your windows have multiple panes. The sponge is actually a good idea because it’s absorbent and firmer.

Squirt some liquid soap in the water and then rub properly from one side to the other. Pay attention to the edges so that you do not miss a spot.

Wipe The Surface Clean

Use the squeegee in a top-bottom motion. Wipe the blade after every stroke with a clean rag. This is to make sure that you do not leave any streaks on the window. Streaks are very ugly when they are left to dry on the glass pane.

In case you realize the squeegee is creaking, add some soap to your cleaning water. Make sure you only use chamois when removing streaks on the glass, but for the windowsill, you should use a dry rag.

Get Rid Of Stubborn Spots

Of course, there will always be one or two stubborn spots when you are cleaning the window repair. Water run-off is one of the common causes of this. If left unattended for a long time, you might end up with a long stain streak. You can use steel wool or a wet towel to lightly wipe away the stubborn spots.
