The Spark Plug Gap to get a Husqvarna String Trimmer

Husqvarna manufactures a line of string trimmers for homeowners that want to trim weeds and also quite high grass. These machines have been powered by lightweight, single-cylinder, two-cycle gas engines that require gas to be mixed with lubricating oil in a 50:1 ratio. The fuel is combined with air in the carburetor and ignited from the cylinder via a spark plugin to For best performance, the spark plug’s electrode gap has to be set to factory specification.

Correct Gap

The difference between the spark plug’s center electrode and outer electrode should be put at 0.02 inch, or 0.5 millimeter, for many Husqvarna door versions. On some newer versions, the business recommends a slightly bigger gap of 0.024 inch, or 0.6 millimeter. Husqvarna recommends that you check the electrode gap weekly by unscrewing the plug from the cylinder and measuring the gap using a spark plug electrode gauge. The spark plug is located on peak of the motor housing.

Clean & Replace

The business recommends cleaning the outside of the spark plug and replacing the spark plug with a brand new one monthly. The spark plugs advocated by Husqvarna include the Champion RCJ6Y and RCJ7Y and NGK BPMR7A or CMR6A. Plugs should be of the resistor type to suppress electrical noise.

Check Plug

If your trimmer becomes difficult to begin, runs poorly at idle or is low on power, the company advises that you check the spark plug before taking any other activity. Remove the plug from the motor, clean away any dirt or deposits in the electrodes and check the electrode gap is correct. When replacing a spark plug with a brand new one, advises Husqvarna, make sure it is the appropriate type of plug. A wrong spark plug can cause damage to the piston or cylinder.

Impaired Performance

The spark plug performance is adversely affected by a dirty air filter, incorrect fuel-oil mixture or wrong type of oil, based on Husqvarna. If you allow these conditions to persist, the result may be excessive deposits in the spark plug’s electrodes that could cause starting and running problems.
